The cake as a symbol of joy and celebration; the conveyor of history, culture, and tradition; as a token of love, belonging and social occasion. A cake has traditionally been a food of celebration, friendship, sharing, joy, and grieving. A cake is served at birthdays, weddings, funerals, with friends or simply as a conduit to bring the “team” together in the workplace.


The word cake appeared in the English language in the Middle Ages - when they were made of dried fruit, nuts, ginger and suet - and is thought to have derived from the Old Norse word “kaka”.


The junk food ingredient is found in a lot of surprising items all over your grocery store that could affect badly in our body. Researchers from the University of California, San Diego have discovered trans fats not only make your jeans tighter but may also worsen your memory. Some study-based evidence shows that eating cakes and cupcakes is not good for us. However, the only reason behind this conclusion is the fact that cakes are sweet. As such, health experts assume that they can cause several health hazards.

But, cakes are not universally unhealthy. There are numerous benefits to eating cakes and cupcakes.

It provides energy

Carbohydrates are one of the major sources of energy in plenty of foods. And cakes and cupcakes are generally made by mixing flour and sugar together, which are excellent sources of carbohydrates. They can provide the entire body, including muscles, brain, and nervous system, with a sufficient amount of energy. In addition to that, the fats present in cakes are also good sources of energy.

It improves digestion

Cakes containing fruits such as berries, pineapples, and apples are a good source of fiber too. Fiber-rich foods can help our body to have a better digestive system. Some cakes and cupcakes are even made with carrot, and carrots contain a lot of fibers as well. Thus, consuming cupcakes and cakes containing all the aforementioned fruits can help to increase the fiber levels in our body, improve digestion and minimize the risk of heart diseases.

It provides strength for body

These sweet confections can supply your body with a quality amount of protein. Cakes contain milk and eggs which are known to be some of the major sources of protein. And milk contains calcium which improves the functionality of bones and teeth. Also, cakes that are baked with dry fruits such as almond, cashew nuts, etc can serve the body with a good quantity of vitamins, and thereby strengthen the immune system.


The popular dessert of all times is the cake. But are you aware of its dangers and the side effects associated with it?  Cakes may satisfy your taste buds and make you hope for seconds, you need to stay aware that this high-calorie dessert is perfectly capable of causing a devastating effect on your health which amounts to diabetes and obesity along with other conditions likely to affect the proper functioning of your body.


  • Eating too many cakes can cause for gaining excessive weight.

  • The sugars in the cake may increase your blood glucose level and so you may become diabetic on a long run.

  • The margarine or butter which is been used in cakes may raise your blood cholesterol levels.

  • Dyes in some velvet cakes which are been used for coloring purposes may cause digestion related problems and may even be allergic to some people.

  • Some type of cakes like lazy cakes may induce sleepiness, numbness, and weakness.

  • People with Type 2 diabetes must be especially careful when eating cake because of all the sugar, but one study indicates that the butter and oil in the cake might be problematic, too.


However, it is always important to maintain a balanced diet in order to live a healthy life, and having too much of something can be bad, even if it has health benefits. Therefore, cakes should be eaten in limited quantities as part of a balanced diet.
